Cytoplasmic bodies

Cytoplasmic bodies is a collective term for distinct foci inside the cytoplasm including processing bodies (P-bodies) or stress granules. Cytoplasmic bodies are poorly characterized but it is known that especially P-bodies have important tasks in mRNA turnover, including mRNA decay or silencing.

Immunofluorescent staining

The staining for cytoplasmic bodies can easily mistaken with a vesicle staining. However, it is usually possible to distinguish the two organelles by size and and number as cytoplasmic bodies are slightly bigger than vesicles and occur in much lower numbers.
