Staining of cell junctions in human cell line U-2 OS (HPA036538)
Scale bar represents 10µm
Cell junctions
Cell junctions occur between two neighboring cells or between a cell and the extracellular matrix. Cell junctions are essential in the signaling pathway as they allow cell-to-cell communication. In addition cell junctions are involved in the formation of transport channels between cells allowing the transfer of molecules between the cells.
Immunofluorescent staining
Staining of cell junctions can only be observed when cells are in contact with each other. The staining is very specific, and is only seen at the actual site of cell-cell connections.
